Access Policies

Ask us!

Proper identification is required for admittance to any of the libraries. Current St. John's University students, faculty, staff, and administrators must present a valid StormCard (St. John's ID card). METRO Referral Cards and WALDO stickers will be honored when presented to the security guard at the entrance to the library.

Remote Access
Off campus access to licensed electronic library resources is available only to current St. John's students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Visitors
A Library Access Card is required for visitors who are not entitled to a St. John's University ID (StormCard) or Courtesy Card when seeking to gain access to the Queens Main Library. Children/minors (any individual under the age of 18) are not eligible for the Library Access Card.

Annual Library Access Cards can be purchased for a yearly fee of $25 after filling out an application. Applicants must present a valid United States issued Photo Driver’s License; a DMV issued Non-Driver Photo ID; or a valid unexpired Passport which will be copied for file. Library Access Cards expire each year on August 31.

Library Access Cards may be obtained at the University StormCard Office in the Public Safety Building on Goethals Road. Many services - including submitting applications; making payments; and card verification/pickup - are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For more information, call (718) 990-6257 during normal business hours or (718) 990-6281 at all other times.

Regular StormCard Office Hours
Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Visitors may use the facilities, equipment and resources in the public areas of the library providing that they abide by the "Library Code of Conduct" and that their use does not infringe upon the rights of the St. John's University community. At busy times during the semester or where there are patrons waiting to use equipment or services, patrons with St. John's University ID cards will be given preference.

Visitors may not borrow library materials and are not entitled to off campus access to licensed electronic resources.

Courtesy Cards
A Library Courtesy Card gives its holder access to the University Library (St. Augustine Hall) and to the Loretto Memorial Library (S. I.
